Detmar F. tom Dieck
1921-2018
Detmar F. tom Dieck of Midlothian, Virginia, formerly of Houston, Texas, departed a life well-lived on his 97th birthday, June 16, 2018. Detmar, the beloved husband of the late Anneliese tom Dieck, is survived by his daughter Anke tom Dieck and son-in-law J.M. Russell Jackson of Midlothian, Virginia.
Detmar's life was an amazing journey. Born in Nordenham, Germany on June 16, 1921, he emigrated to the United States with his wife and young daughter in 1953. The 6-week North Atlantic voyage to their new homeland was made aboard a U.S. Liberty ship; their final destination was Houston, Texas, where relatives awaited their arrival. The tom Dieck's eagerly and wholeheartedly embraced the founding principles and values of their new country, a welcoming land of opportunity, becoming proud United States citizens in September 1959.
Detmar began his new career with Western Geophysical Company in 1954, a lasting relationship from which he would retire in 1985, one year before his dear Anneliese would pass away. Over the years, he became a Texan, remaining in Houston until 2012, when he joyfully joined Anke and Russ as they retired to Virginia. He loved his new surroundings and took great pleasure in actively pursuing his model railroading and model shipbuilding hobbies in his special hobby room in their home. Detmar was so happy to finally be with his daughter, son in-law and his new wonderful Richmond family.
A memorial service will held at Forest Park Westheimer Mausoleum, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at 11 a.m.
