Anne Heideman Albro

Anne grew up in an aviation family in St. Louis, Missouri. Her father, Harold Heideman, worked for Robertson Aircraft at Lambert Field and knew many pilots, including Charles Lindbergh, Amelia Earhart, Oscar Turner and Wiley Post. These pilots, plus others, stayed at the Heideman boarding house, located next to the airport. Anne was very fortunate to meet these aviation pioneers during her childhood and to be exposed to some of the struggles and triumphs of early aviation.

Anne graduated from Bradley Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1942. At Bradley, she met Donald Wollett and married him after graduation. They moved to Seattle after World War II when Donald was hired to teach at the University of Washington School of Law. Following their divorce Anne married W.T. "Tom" Albro in 1955. The marriage ended after 56 fulfilling years when Tom died in September 2011. Anne and Tom operated a mechanical contracting business in Central Seattle until they retired in the 70's.

Anne was born on August 5, 1920 and left us on June 2, 2018, two months short of her 98th birthday. She left three children, Fritz Wollett, Carol Ellenz and Lynda Call. Anne was predeceased by her youngest son, Gilbert, who died at age 20 in 1973. Together with Tom, Anne enjoyed folk dancing, bicycle riding, camping and hiking. As did Tom, Anne loved all furry animals, especially cats and poodles. Anne was an active member of the Eastside Poodle Club. She loved to teach poodles tricks to perform at assisted living facilities.

Anne learned to ski in the 1950's and taught Tom and the children at Stevens and Snoqualmie. One of her most unforgettable memories occurred in the 50's when she broke her leg on the High Rustler run at Alta. Her rescuer was Junior Vamoose, one of the leading skiers of the day who was a member of the Alta ski patrol. At age 82 Anne skied with her 8 year old granddaughter Dylan, as well as Dylan's parents, Fritz and Susan Wollett, in Silver Star, BC.

Another unforgettable memory occurred in 1987 when Anne watched Fritz, an attorney, argue and win a case in front of the United States Supreme Court. She entertained her friends by describing the colloquy between Fritz and the justices during the argument.

Anne led an active life. She served as president of the Bellevue chapter of the League of Women Voters. She spent much time with close friends Lorraine Goldberg, Gloria Barelo, Martha Fletcher, Rosemary Horwood and others. Anne traveled extensively. Accompanied by friends, she made over 25 trips to Europe and the Far East. She kept meticulous scrap books of her travels and her high school and college years which she shared with her family. Growing up as a fan of the world champion St. Louis Cardinals, Anne spent many frustrating years rooting for the less accomplished Seattle Mariners. She held season tickets at the Issaquah Village Theater and attended Folklife regularly. She was a member of the Eastshore Unitarian Church. Anne loved to sew and knit for her family, friends and poodles. One of her fondest memories was attending one of Dylan's grade school classes to display a quilt she made.

Anne's family and remaining friends miss her very much. Anne was loving, kind and generous. She liked everyone she met. Her door was always open. Anne resided at Ardmore Senior Care in Bellevue during her last years where she was well taken care of by Rodica and Petru Belindean. A Memorial Service will be held this Summer on a date and time to be determined. Remembrances can be made to any animal shelter, the Eastshore Unitarian Church, Folklife or .
