Albert Francis McNamara Addicition counselor with a commitment to justice Albert Francis McNamara of Ocean Grove, N.J., age 73, died Thursday, May 24, 2018, at home, surrounded by family. Al was born in Brooklyn in 1944 and raised in St. Gregory's parish in the shadow of Ebbets Field. He attended Boys' High School before entering the U.S. Army, where he served in the infantry from 1963 to 1965. He was employed by Morgan Guarantee Trust Company before working three decades in the field of addiction treatment, through which he will be remembered by many colleagues and patients. After retirement, he worked summers at the Ocean Grove beach. Al will be remembered for his wit, knowledge of trivia, and his love for the ocean, soccer, movies and poetry. He is survived by his wife, Karen Schroeder; his son, Ken McNamara of Newark, N.J.; daughter, Michelle Zurawski of Brick, N.J.; grandchildren, Tiana and Johnny Zurawski; former wife, Patricia McNamara (nee Darcy); his brother, Thomas and wife, Janet; and his beloved dog, Rosie. Albert was predeceased by his father, Albert; mother, Agnes (nee Grimes), and Aunt Alice Grimes, all originally of Glasgow, Scotland. A part of the Ocean Grove community for more than 30 years, Al will be remembered by many as a good friend and for his deep commitment to social and economic justice. Visitors are welcome Tuesday, May 29, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Ave., Ocean Grove. Memorial service will be private.
