Annette Leehive Mass is Tuesday for Avon-by-the-Sea great-grandmother Annette Leehive, 99, of Avon-by-the-Sea, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2018, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Annette was born on June 2, 1918, in Orange, N.J. She was a graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes Grammar School in West Orange, N.J., and West Orange High School. She lived in West Orange and New Providence, N.J., throughout her life before moving to Avon-by-the-Sea in 2001. During her life, Annette worked for the Burns Employment Agency in Newark, Half-Dime Savings Bank in Orange, Kemper Insurance in Summit, N.J., The Prudential Insurance Company of America in Newark, and the Tax Assessor's Office in West Orange. While working at the assessor's office, Annette completed courses at Rutgers University, was a notary public, and was secretary to the Zoning Board. Annette was a member of the Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters of Our Lady of Lourdes in West Orange. She was later a parishioner of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary Church in Avon-by-the-Sea and a member of the Rosary Altar Society. Annette was devoted to her family and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She particularly loved the frequent tea parties she had with her great-grandchildren. She enjoyed Irish music, relaxing in the sun, and all things Lawrence Welk. Annette has been reunited with the love of her life, Joseph F. Leehive, her parents, Dennis and Margaret Gleavy, her brother, James (Moe) Gleavy, and her sisters, Eleanor Coughlin and Gertrude Gleavy. She is survived by her loving son, Dennis Leehive and his wife, Lenore, of Denville, N.J., her daughter, Jeanne West and her husband, Chester, of Avon-by-the-Sea, her grandchildren, Lori Leehive (Jackson), Kelly Fitzpatrick (Brendan), Kara Edgar (Mark), and Shannon Sydlowski (Bill), and all of her adoring great-grandchildren, Stella Perman, Thean Ling, Teagan Fitzpatrick, Maeve Annette Fitzpatrick, Ruby Edgar, Owen Edgar, Grace Edgar, Claire Sydlowski and Molly Sydlowski. Annette is also survived by her equally witty sister, Margaret Pomorski, brother-in-law Jerry Coughlin, several nieces and nephews, and her best friend, Catherine Haring. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Saint Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 424 Lincoln Avenue, Avon-by-the-Sea, N.J. Visitation will be held prior to the mass for family only from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday morning at the Reilly Bonner Funeral Home, 80-D Street, Belmar, N.J. A committal service will follow the mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 225 Ridgedale Ave., East Hanover, N.J. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to .
