Alan Ferris James succumbed to cancer of the appendix on April 13, 2018. Born December 26, 1956, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Barbara Joyce Hendrickson and John Carl James, he graduated from Snake River High School in 1975. He served an LDS mission in Thunder Bay, Canada. He received computer science and Master of Business Administration degrees from the University of Utah. While working for First Security Bank as a systems programmer, he wrote then helped maintain the computer software that underlay the first automatic teller machine network in the western United States. He went on to lead teams designing high-end, cutting-edge computer systems at Pansophic Systems, Computer Associates, Myriad Genetics, General Electric, and Intermountain Healthcare. He was an avid kayaker and hiker, running all of the major rivers in the western United States and traveling to Chile, Nepal, and Costa Rica to sample some of the most beautiful and challenging white water in the world. He and his dogs hiked thousands of miles throughout the Rocky Mountains and abroad. Alan made a real difference in many, many lives. He will be missed.
Survived by brother Brent (Eve) James, sister Carolyn (Sam) Giannini, brother Blair (Jonna) James, brother Greg (Bobbie) James, and 13 nieces and nephews.
