Alexis M. Joseph Retired retail executive and store owner, award-winning artist of pastel landscapes Alexis Monell Joseph, 71, of Kinnelon, N.J., passed away on April 26, 2018. Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, at the Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains, N.J., www.scanlanfuneral.com. Raised in Newburgh, N.Y., Alexis graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with a degree in art. She lived for several years in Ridgewood, N.J., and most recently in Kinnelon. She had a successful career as a retailer, first as an executive for Bloomingdale's and Macy's, and later as the founder of Burton & Lovejoy in Paramus, N.J., a unique antique and home decor store. After retiring from retail, Alexis returned to the art world. Her works were mostly pastel landscapes for which she received many awards. Alexis was devoted to her family and close friends, all of whom cherished her warmth, humor and willingness to speak her mind. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Richard Joseph; her daughter, Kimberly Cannon-Anderson and her son-in-law, Michael Anderson; her brother, Lloyd Monell Jr. and his wife, Deanna; her sister, Sherry Warters; her grandchildren, Lindsay Alexis Cannon and Tucker Flynn Cannon, and her beloved bearded collie, Murphy. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Alexis to Morristown Medical Center would be greatly appreciated by the family.
