Jack Arnold Barnett passed away on his 82nd birthday, April 13, 2018. Jack was the son of Thomas Arnold Barnett and Cora Amelia Mabey Barnett. Born in Salt Lake City, Jack was raised in Bountiful where he attended Bountiful High and graduated from Davis High School. He learned the value of hard work helping on his grandfather's produce farm and on the family ranch in Idaho. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in geology from the University of Utah. Jack married Evelyn Ilene Ricks on September 12, 1958 in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of seven children. Jack's cheerful, optimistic outlook and love for people endeared him to those around him. He worked for both the state of Idaho and Utah in water resources. Jack served as the executive director of the Idaho Water Users' Association, the executive director of the Western States' Water Council, the first executive director of the Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Forum, the engineer manager of the Bear River Commission, a member of the Utah State Parks board, and as the owner of a water resource consulting business. Jack was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving a church service mission at the LDS Conference Center with his wife, as bishop of the Bountiful Hills Ward, and as a temple worker in the Bountiful temple. He loved scouting, serving as a scout master for many years and earning the rank of Eagle Scout and the Silver Beaver award. Jack is survived by his wife, Ilene, and his seven children: Susan (Greg Stephens); Don (Diana); Mike (Shelly); Jim (Julia); Julie (Rodney Clark); Kristine (John Wadsworth); and Jenny; and by 23 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Cora Barnett and by his grandson, Brian Barnett.
A viewing will be held at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful on Friday, April 20 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 21 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS chapel on 825 South 50 East, Farmington.
