Alma Lura Edwards Branscomb
1926 ~ 2018
Alma Branscomb passed away on March 13, 2018 in Provo, Utah. She was born on June 17, 1926 on the family farm in Hillsville, Virginia to Cora Lee Robinson and Brooks Mitchell Edwards. She attended Woodlawn High School and was briefly enrolled in nursing school. She married Earl Frederick Branscomb (Sr.) in 1948 in Greenup, Kentucky.
Mom was always a great cook and big sister, helping to raise and feed her siblings. She continued to practice her maternal gifts with her own 5 children and one step-son. Mom and dad joined the in 1957, one year after the missionaries stopped by to share their message. Mom patiently waited to be reunited with dad for 30 years, after he preceded her in death in 1988. Mom was not just a home-maker, as she assisted dad in the family mobile home business and other enterprises. Mom and dad were very active in the Church. Along with many other callings, mom served as Primary President of our small branch for several years. In 1990 mom was sealed to dad and to all of her children in the Jordan River Temple via proxy by Elder Donald Brown of Grantsville, UT.
Mom is survived by her children: Lionel (step-son) (Mona), Patty (Don) Wheeling, Fred (Theresa), Tim (Beckie), John (Kim) and Lara Jackson; along with 20 grand-children, 38 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to dad and her own parents, mom was preceded in death by all of her 7 brothers and sisters: Bernice Edwards, Mary Hundley, Clyde Edwards, Ethel Vass, Mamie Tomlinson, Billy Edwards and Swanson Edwards.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at 6:00 pm at the Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home located at 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 So.) in South Jordan, Utah, with a viewing prior to the funeral in the same location from 4:30 to 5:45 pm. Interment will be at Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Saturday, March 24, 2018 following a brief service there to be announced.
