Beatrice Veronica Grossman of Brea died Saturday morning, Feb. 11th, in Fullerton, peacefully surrounded by her family. She was born Feb. 23, 1919, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Beatrice was the oldest of six children raised by Michael and Nora Rafter. Beatrice leaves a son, Robert Grossman (Tari) and three grandsons. She was preceded in death by husband Phillip Grossman and son, Gerald Grossman. Beatrice moved to California from Washington DC during WWII where she met her husband, Phillip. They were married in 1947 and had 34 wonderful years together. Beatrice and Phillip moved their family to Pomona in 1957 where their two sons were raised. Beatrice worked for General Dynamics, Pomona Division, for 25 years as an Estimator where she was one of the first to apply Parametric Estimating as an estimating tool. She retired from General Dynamics in 1987. She moved to Diamond Bar in 1989 where she lived until 2017. She spent her last year at Brookdale Senior Living in Brea. After retiring in 1987 she realized there was much more for her to do so she became a student at Cal State Fullerton graduating with a degree in Economics at age 78 and at age 81 joined the Peace Corps and serving for 27 months in Romania becoming the oldest Peace Corps Volunteer of the time. She loved serving in the Peace Corps and until her death, kept in contact with many of her fellow Peace Corps and Romanian friends. A celebration of Beatrice's life will begin at 12:00 p.m. on March 3rd, at St. Denis Catholic Community Church in Diamond Bar.
