James Lee Hackett
1928-2018
James Lee Hackett (Jim), 89, of Seabrook, Texas, went home to be with his Lord on February 14, 2018. Jim was born November 10, 1928 in West Plains, Missouri, to James Logan Hackett and Ella Dix Hackett. Jim is survived by Marilyn Shipman Hackett, his loving wife of nearly 64 years. He is also survived by one son, James A. Hackett and his wife Jeanette of League City, Texas; wonderful grandchildren James F. Hackett and wife Lindsay, Audrey R. Hackett, Joe Marcum and wife Marcy (and great-grandchildren Emma and Ellie), Alex Chan, and Vanessa Chan; and his brother, the Rev. David R. Hackett and wife Kay of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jim was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having proudly served in the USAF from August 1947 to September 1953. After his period of service in the USAF, he attended and graduated from the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy (now the Missouri University of Science and Technology) in Rolla, Missouri, with a degree in Electrical Engineering. His industrial career covered over 50 years in Process Control Engineering for several companies in the Oil and Petrochemical industry. Jim was a Licensed Professional Engineer in Texas and retired from Amoco WE&C in Houston in 1998. After retiring, he worked as a consultant for several companies in the field of Process Safety and OSHA Compliance.
Jim's passion was his family and service to others, especially through his church, University Baptist Church in Clear Lake. He was honored by the church as a Deacon Emeritus in 2005.
On Tuesday, February 20, Jim's family will receive guests between 6-7 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. at University Baptist Church, 16106 Middlebrook Drive, Houston, TX 77059. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in lieu of flowers in Jim's memory may do so to University Baptist Church to support the Navajo Mission effort. Interment will be in Sikeston, Missouri.
