Albert S. Riggs Business entrepreneur Albert S. Riggs, 96, of Oak Ridge, N.J., passed away at his home on Feb. 15, 2018 surrounded by his family. A visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 23, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church, 321 Oak Ridge Rd., Oak Ridge, N.J. 07438. A celebration of life service will be held in the spring. Albert was born and lived his entire life in Oak Ridge. His father was a physician, who delivered him in the same home from which Albert passed on from this life. He proudly served in the US Army, participating in the European Theatre during World War II. He was awarded an honorary degree by Blair Academy, Blairstown, N.J. Albert began his career as a dairy farmer, became a real estate developer, later constructing Bowling Green Golf Club in Oak Ridge, N.J., in the 1960s, serving as its president for many years. He was a founding director of Lakeland Bank and a board member until his retirement. Albert enjoyed frequent trips to his farm in Vermont, which he fondly considered his "estate." He loved travelling with his wife, Elizabeth, and later with his beloved companion, Clare Callender. He stayed "off the beaten path" whenever possible. Throughout his life he sold Christmas trees, which was the first of his many businesses begun as a teenager. He loved a martini at the end of each day, but his family is what made him smile. Later, Albert enjoyed several happy years of companionship with Clare. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Young Riggs. He is survived by his son, Joseph F. Riggs, and his wife, Cynthia of Oak Ridge, N.J.; grandson, Wilton Riggs and his wife, Kristyn, of Oak Ridge; granddaughter, Sarah Swain and her husband, David, of Ross, Calif. He is also survived by his loving great-grandchildren, Oliver, Caroline, Evelyn, and Harrison. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church.
