Alison Smith Andrews

Alison Hale Smith was born May 27, 1926 to Hannah and Sidney Smith in Vancouver, BC, joining older sisters, CaraLee and Margaretta, who predeceased her. She died in her home February 8, 2018, at age 91.

She graduated from York House School in Vancouver and attended 2 years at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, then finished up at the University of Washington, majoring in Biology. She met her husband, Edward (Ned) W Andrews in 1950 and was married May 12, 1951 in Vancouver. Ned died of Alzheimer's October 9, 1998 after 47 years of marriage.

Alison was an incredibly bright, talented and accomplished woman. She was lucky enough to be able to turn her considerable energies towards organizations and causes that she believed in. Over the years, she was active in the Lighthouse of the Blind, The Salvation Army, University of Washington, English Speaking Union, Seattle Garden Club, The Garden Club of America, The Bloedel Reserve, the Miller Gardens, to name a few. She was always one of the smartest people in the room.

Alison leaves behind three children; Patsy Pattison (Dick), Ted Andrews (Gretchen Hund) and Sid Andrews (Shelley Buurman); 6 grandchildren; Jeff (Colette), Sid (Abby) and Scott Pattison, Robin, Ali and Beatrice Andrews; and 3 perfect great-granddaughters. "Aunty Ali" was also survived by Abby Johnson, Robert and Sarah Ridley, Raleigh & John Andrews and Marcie Gwiazdon. Many thanks to Virginia Santos and Tami Scott who made the last years of her life so wonderful.

Memorials suggested to the Bloedel Reserve http://bloedelreserve.org/, the EW Andrews UW Scholarship (ckravas@u.washington.edu) or the . A memorial will take place on March 10, 2018 at 3pm at the Florence Henry Memorial Chapel, followed by a reception at the Seattle Golf Club.
