Aline Beckham Worked tirelessly to beautify South Orange Aline Beckham (nee Aline May Hall), of South Orange, N.J., died of natural causes on Jan. 25, 2018, in Cedartown, Ga. Mrs. Beckham was born in Sandoval, Ill., to James and Lavert Wilson Hall on June 22, 1926. She moved to South Orange with her husband and son in 1974, after living in New York City for 10 years. Upon moving to South Orange, Mrs. Beckham dove into the life of South Orange Village by joining the Garden Club and working tirelessly to beautify the village. She loved her neighborhood and began the practice of hanging flower baskets on the curbside gaslight posts. She had a robust zest for life and learning and became active in many civic activities, including the N.J. Historical Society, the South Orange Traveler's Club, Turtle Back Zoo, and St. Andrew & Holy Communion Episcopal Church. She was a patron of the arts and especially loved opera, chamber music and theater. She was a regular donor to SOPAC and Seton Hall University. Mrs. Beckham had a generous heart and gave to many humanitarian, social, educational, and environmental groups. She loved being out and about in the community, meeting people and participating in the life of the village. She had a great sense of humor, and could easily converse with and charm anyone she met. Mrs. Beckham was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Claud L. Beckham, and her brother, James F. Hall Jr. She is survived by her son, C. Edward McKinney; two daughters, Claudia Henderson (Danny) and Gloria Jean Broadstreet (Greg); her sister, Bobbe Lunsford (Bill); her beloved niece, Jasper LLee, and other nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her ashes will be placed next to her husband at Calvary Church in New York City where she and Claud were members.
