CONWAY Eleanor Marie Conway (nee O'Toole) "Nonnie" Of Bethesda, MD passed away at the age of 90 of natural causes in Bethesda on December 28, 2017. Nonnie was born on September 11, 1927 in Chicago, IL the second of three daughters of Dennis J. O'Toole of Chicago, an attorney and Army officer in WWI, and Eleanor O'Toole nee Fleming of Mount Vernon, NY, a nurse in WWI. Nonnie graduated from Longwood Academy in Chicago and later attended Lawrence College in Wisconsin. On January 26th, 1951 Nonnie married Stephen S. Conway of Chicago, an executive of Abex Corporation, at Christ the King Church. Nonnie shared Stephen's career managing a household of what would become five children--with travel and household relocations to Toledo, OH, Baltimore, MD, St.Paul, MN, Birmingham, MI, Paris, France, New York City, Greenwich, CT, and San Diego, CA. After moving to Washington, DC in 1991, Nonnie became a volunteer in the Gift Unit of the White House during the term of George H.W. Bush. Later she was a volunteer at Sibley Hospital in Bethesda. Nonnie stayed a prolific traveler, visiting her children and grandchildren's homes throughout the country. Nonnie's other interests were always social in nature, including regular games of golf with close friends at The Kenwood Golf and Country Club. She also had a particular interest in French Impressionism and would travel far and wide for exhibitions with friends she made around the globe. Nonnie is survived by her sister Denise Nietzel of Chicago, Stephen Conway of San Diego, children Stephen, Bernard, James, John, and Catherine; grandchildren Stephen, Bernard, John, Marie, Cormac, Galen, and Brian Conway as well as Dashiell, Orson, and Otto Luessenhop. Nonnie is predeceased by her sister Jean O'Toole who passed in 2011. The funeral will be held on January 3, 2018 at 12 Noon at The Church of the Little Flower in Bethesda, MD. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. before the service. The internment will be at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery located in Alsip, IL where she will be laid to rest alongside her mother and father.
