ARLENE BURNETT CHAVES  
Born October 25, 1940 passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on August 25, 2017 at Virginia Hospital Center from acute leukemia. Arlene was born in El Centro California of Ruth Bowling Burnett and Elvin "Tex" Burnett. Arlene grew up in Livingston California where her family owned and operated a large trucking company. Arlene graduated from Texas Tech University where she was a featured Majorette. Arlene taught for 31 years in the Fairfax County school system including Thomas Jefferson HS, Annandale High School and Lake Braddock Secondary School. Arlene is survived by her husband Damien Chaves, her daughter Margaret Koch Champion, her granddaughters, Kayla, Lexi and Emma Champion and her sister Linda Burnett Iltis. She will be missed by her family, friends, associates and past students. A private celebration of her life was held at home. In lieu of flowers donations to Arlene's favorite charity, Children's National Hospital, are appreciated.
