Alfred P. Yanni WWII veteran, retired Texaco, engineer, great-grandfather Alfred P. Yanni, 96, passed away on Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at Bridgeway Care and Rehabilitation Center in Bridgewater, N.J. He was the devoted father of Linda Barrick (the late Robert), Geraldine Singletary, Alfred DeFurianni (Susan), Patricia Dinella (Donald) and the late Thomas Yanni; former husband of the late Carmela L. Yanni; loving grandfather of Kristen, Carissa, Brian, Timothy, Christopher, Cecilia, and Alexandra; and great-grandfather of Emily and Giovanni. Al was born in Bayonne, N.J., and lived in Hillside, N.J., and Elizabeth, N.J., for most of his life. He was a field engineer for Texaco for 27 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus No. 3197 Hillside. Al was a World War II veteran serving in the third infantry division, and received a Purple Heart. Funeral is from the Growney Funeral Home, 1070 N. Broad St., Hillside, N.J., on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at 9:30 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be offered at St. James Church, Springfield, N.J., at 11 a.m. Visitation is Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alfred's name to () or .
