Anne Devine Anne Devine's long struggle with cancer ended on November 29, 2017. She passed away in her hometown of Belfast, Ireland, with her life partner, Mark Kenepp, and some of her dear siblings by her side.
Anne, the fourth of nine children, was born on September 27, 1951, to Billy and Annie Shannon. From her parents she inherited a rebel spirit and a great love for her country and its people. She opposed injustice in all its forms, and supported the struggle for Irish unity. At one point she chained herself to the railings of 10 Downing Street to protest Britain's treatment of Irish political prisoners.
Another of Anne's guiding principles was her devotion to her family, and particularly to her son Richard. She was always there when help or advice was needed, and no favor was too large or small. She was particularly close to her many nieces and nephews.
Anne lived for many years in San Francisco. She tended bar at The Dubliner and The Rover's Inn on 24th Street, and later worked for McMorgan Company in the Financial District. Her friendliness, humor, and compassion made her popular among customers, co-workers, and neighbors, and she forged many enduring friendships. She was as an ardent SF Giants fan, and delighted in the team's three World Series titles.
A committed congregant of St. James parish, in the Mission District, Anne was active on the parish council, and put much time and energy into its charitable and fund-raising events.
Anne is sorely missed by her brother Patrick Shannon (Mary McKenna) of Albany, CA. Her nephew and niece, Eamonn and Roisin Shannon, will forever carry fond memories of their Auntie Anne. She is missed also by her nephew Ciaran McAuley (Lisa) and family, of San Francisco.
