Alvin Huron Brown

Alvin Huron Brown lived a wonderful life of 103 years. He began a long and purposeful journey to a life well lived on January 22, 1914. His journey ended on November 26, 2017, in Seattle, WA, having had success with his family, professional and personal life.

Alvin was the son of Harry and Alpharetta Brown of Tacoma, WA. He graduated from Stadium High school where he was president of his senior class in 1932. He attended College of Puget Sound and graduated from Stanford University in 1936, with a degree in economics. Alvin married Anita-Nell McGinnis in 1935. After graduation they settled in Tacoma and he began his 40 year career in the candy business working for Brown and Haley and then Harry Brown Confections. In 1950 the family moved to Seattle and Alvin became President of Rogers Candy Co.

He was preceded in death by Anita-Nell in 1974. They had five daughters, Sharron Holtz, Judy Nilsen, Nancy Blessing, Sally Harris and Nita Mortensen.

In 1976 he married Elizabeth (Betty) Blessing and gained an additional daughter, Betsy Fornoff and a son, David Blessing. Elizabeth survives him, as do all of his children. He also leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren.

As an avid fisherman for forty years he spent one week each summer fishing with his brothers, sons-in-law, and nephews in Canada. Alvin also enjoyed fishing with Betty at his cabin in Winthrop. He also loved golf and played into his 90's.

During his work life he was president of the National Confectioners Association and also president of the Seattle Downtown Kiwanis Club. He was part of the formation of Junior Achievement, now known as DECA.

He led a blessed life and was a true Northwest original. Alvin will be missed by his loving family and friends and the world is a better place because of his journey.
