March 2, 1969 - October 25, 2017 Allika Ruby, formerly of Woodland Hills, died at her home in Winters, CA, on October 25 at the age of 48, four months after a cancer diagnosis. Born in Norristown, PA, on March 2, 1969, she grew up in Woodland Hills, attending Serrania Avenue Elementary School in Woodland Hills, Angeles Mesa Elementary School in Los Angeles, West Valley Center for Enriched Studies in Woodland Hills, and graduated from Grover Cleveland Magnet High School. She studied prehistoric archaeology and earned a B.A. from UC Santa Cruz and M.A. from UC Davis. She is remembered with affection by many loving friends and colleagues from her productive 25-year career, the last 20 years at Far Western Anthropological Research Group in Davis, CA. She recognized that caring in her Facebook message by commenting that although she couldn't always respond to gifts, cards and letters, "You're the best ¿ I feel the love ¿ thank you." Her ability to analyze, organize and communicate findings from archaeological projects led to professional positions as project manager and field director, and respected publications. She was lead author on the publication "Salvaging the Past: A Case Study in Archaeological Inquiry," which received the California Governor's Historic Preservation Award in 2017. She was independent-minded and an articulate advocate for fairness in gender, racial and economic equality. Allika was foremost a loving and devoted mother to daughter Calla Rochelle Ruby and wife to husband of 15 years Richard (Rick) T. Fitzgerald Jr. She is survived by stepson Sean Fitzgerald, brother-in-law John Fitzgerald, nephews Dean Anderson and Joseph Fitzgerald. She is remembered with love by parents Richard M. Ruby and Jacqelen Ruben of Woodland Hills, sister Keturah (Darrick) Anderson, aunt Rochelle McAdam and cousins Pilar McAdam and Gail Eichenthal. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, Dec. 9 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Winters Community Center in Winters, CA.
