Ama Margaret Burnette Cavazos passed away of congested heart failure on, Wednesday, November 21, 2017, in Pasadena, Texas. Ama was born on December 28, 1949 in Houston, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents Margaret and John Burnette, sister Eva Burnette and brother Ray Everett Burnette.
Ama is survived by her husband Gilberto Cavazos, son John Ernie Domingues and spouse Vicki, grandsons Kyle and Justin Domingues, stepchildren Gilbert M. Cavazos (Esther), Yvonne Alvarado (Paul), Kenneth Cavazos and Phillip Cavazos, step-grandchildren Eli Vega III, Joshua Vega, Vangie Alvarado, Griselda Alvarado, Laila Alvarado, Alfonso Marciel, Evelyn Marciel, Noah Cavazos, Deja Cavazos, April Cavazos. She is also survived by her sisters Pam Morton, Deborah Breazeale, Jan Morrow, Dorthea Brocken, lifelong friends Linda Rhodes and Keitha Highsmith, four great-stepchildren and numerous other family members and friends.
Ama worked for the Houston Chronicle for 31 years before retiring in July 2015. She loved her work at the Chronicle and was blessed to work with many co-workers that she continued to stay in touch with and considers them as her extended family. She was most proud of her grandsons Klye and Justin, even though young adults now she refers to them as her babies and loves sharing their success in life stories. Ama's favorite past time was going gambling. She loved to go to Coushatta's, Delta Down and any other casino within reach where she even had a personal host to cater to her. Ama and the love of her life Gilbert enjoyed taking road trips to visit family and friends, especially if there was a casino along the way.
Ama will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Visitation and funeral services will be held at Brookside Funeral Home located at 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 27 followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. with burial immediately following.
Pallbearers are Robert Allen Hayes, Donald Ray Mouser, Mike Breazeale Jr., David Brocken Jr., Mark Cavazos, Phillip Cavazos, Paul Alvarado, and Paul Zepeda.
