Sr. Angelina Pecoraro, MPF First grade teacher in New Jersey for over 50 years Sr. Angelina Pecoraro, MPF, 97, died peacefully after a long illness early Monday morning, April 9, 2018, at St. Joseph Hall, Villa Walsh, Morristown, N.J. The viewing will be held Thursday, April 12, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Saint Lucy Chapel at Villa Walsh, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 4 p.m. celebrated by Rev. Robert Lynam, pastor of St. Augustine of Canterbury Parish, Kendall Park, N.J. Arrangements are by the Doyle Funeral Home, Morristown. Born and raised in Newark, N.J., Sister Angelina entered the Religious Teachers Filippini in 1937. She was invested in 1938, and made her final religious profession in 1941. Her B.S. degree in elementary education and M.A. degree in general professional education were both earned at Seton Hall University. Sister Angelina's many years of ministry brought her to the Archdiocese of Newark and the Diocese of Trenton and Metuchen, N.J. A first grade teacher for over 50 years, Sr. Angelina often spoke with pride that her students left her class reading on a fifth grade level. While teaching, she also served as principal and superior while at Saint James, Trenton; Saint Nicholas, Palisades Park, and Saint Anthony, Union City, N.J. In 1993, Sr. Angelina was awarded Teacher of the Year, and in 1999, was honored by the NCEA for her 60 years dedicated to Catholic education. When no longer able to teach, Sr. Angelina served as an administrative assistant at Our Lady of Libera, West New York, N.J., and when assigned to Saint Augustine of Canterbury, Kendall Park, her last place of mission, she served as an aide in the school. Even though a "task master," in every place of mission and in every role, Sister Angelina enjoyed her work, loved and was loved by the people she served. A conscientious Filippini Sister, filled with a heart of love, is the legacy she leaves behind. In 2012, Sr. Angelina retired at Villa Walsh and became a resident of St. Joseph Hall in 2013. Sr. Angelina was predeceased by her parents, Gennaro and Anna (DeFalso) Pecoraro; brothers, Anthony (Lea) Pecoraro and Teddy (Geraldine) Pecoraro, and sisters, Helen (Joseph) Lancieri, Connie (John) Di Lorenzo, Rachael (Anthony) Ruggerio. She is survived by her brother, Alfonse, and many loving nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sr. Angelina may be sent to St. Joseph Hall, c/o Sr. Ascenza Tizzano, MPF, Provincial Superior, Villa Walsh, 455 Western Ave., Morristown, N.J. 07960.
