Anita Joy Peckerman

Beloved mother, grandmother and friend, Anita Joy Shapiro peacefully passed from this earth Friday morning. She leaves behind a devoted daughter and son, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her generosity and compassion for others left a mark on all who knew her. Born in Newark, New Jersey to Nathan and Gertrude Peckerman on November 3, 1929 she attended the Rhodes Preparatory School. She later met and married Alex Shapiro of Bronx, New York and is survived by her children, Barry Joel Shapiro and Wendy Lynn Stevens. She leaves behind two adoring grandchildren: Kyle Stevens and Amanda Stevens Quiroga and their spouses Nicole and Robert; devoted son-in-law Peter Stevens and daughter in law Patricia Miles; and great-grandchildren Christian Quiroga and Cooper Stevens. A resident for nearly 30 years of Pembroke Pines, Florida, she leaves behind her many friends and relatives scattered around the country from New York to California and around the world. At heart a quiet, independent woman with a passion for literature, her sense of humor, devotion to family, belief in giving more and expecting nothing in return will be remembered by all whose lives she touched. She also loved dogs, especially her beloved Zoe and Missy who was at her side until the end. There will not be a public service but donations in her name can be made to the Humane Society of Broward County. http://humanebroward.com/dogs
