BURNS, Alvin Everett Alvin Everett Burns, born November 12, 1931 in Magnolia, AR, died at his home in Dallas at age 86 on March 16, 2018. Alvin graduated from University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. in accounting and co-founded the Dallas-based CPA firm of Middleton, Burns and Davis. He retired as managing partner in 1994 after a 34-year career. Alvin served, taught, and worshipped faithfully for over 40 years at Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas. Among his most personally-valued contributions in life was his service during the 1970s to the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Serving as liaison with the then financially-distressed Dallas Baptist College, Alvin's recommendations for financial restructuring ensured the survival of the school. He was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Humanities degree for his service, and today Dallas Baptist University hosts Alvin's legacy as thousands of students earn their education each year in the faith-based environment he successfully preserved. Alvin is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Ila Burns, and five siblings. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ferrell Jean Gallimore Burns; son, Dwight Burns (and wife, Karen); daughter, Camille Riggs; son, Frank Burns (and wife, Tammy); and four adult grandchildren: Everett Burns, Alex Burns, Nick Burns, and Kylie Burns. Alvin's memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 28th at 1:30pm, McIver Chapel, Wilshire Baptist Church, 4316 Abrams Rd in Dallas. Private inurnment will be held at Wilshire's Columbarium Garden. Memorial gifts may be made to Pathways Residency Program at Wilshire Baptist Church.
