Alfred L. Chris

August 31, 1925 - September 21, 2017

Al was born to Madeline and Alfred Christ (Chris) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The family moved to Seattle when Al was four years old. He attended Maple Elementary and graduated from Cleveland High School in 1942.

After graduation from Cleveland High School, he joined the Navy. He served four years and received seven Battle Stars. He enjoyed serving his country and his time in the Navy and liked to tell stories about his days as a sailor. After leaving the Navy, he became a Stack Steel employee until 1947. He served as a Seattle Fire Fighter for 25 years. To listen to him, he was the best ladder truck driver in the Seattle Fire Department. On his days off from the fire department, he worked as a part-time truck driver.

He retired from the fire department and went to work at Dallas & Mavis, delivering new semi-trucks to truck dealerships around the country and then flew home. He accumulated many flight miles and he and his wife traveled throughout the world on free airline tickets.

He will be missed by his friends, young and old, who will miss his joking manner and many of his famous sayings. He left behind his wife of 64 years, Barbara, daughter Darlene (Scott), grandchildren Alexis and Mitchell Chris, daughter-in-law Debbie, his sister Josephine and her family, Mark and Jody (Carey). He is preceded in death by his son Gary.

Al was buried at Tahoma National Cemetery on October 3, 2017, in a private ceremony.
