Amy Lowenstein Accomplished CPA, received AAUW Outstanding Woman award, bridge life master Amy Lowenstein, 73, of Yardley, Pa., died at home on Oct. 5, 2017, from complications of ovarian cancer. Born on July 8, 1944, in Newark, N.J., to the late Robert and Zelda (Lewis) Lowenstein, Amy lived in Yardley for the past 38 years. She was a 1962 graduate of Weequahic High School, and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1966 with a degree in sociology. She obtained an MBA from Drexel University in 1976. Amy became a certified public accountant in New Jersey and Pennsylvania in 1983, having been awarded the Elijah Watts Sells Certificate for performance, with high distinction in the Uniform CPA Examination. She began her career at Nowalk & Associates of Cranbury, N.J., and formed an individual practice, Amy Lowenstein, CPA, in 1992, specializing in tax accounting and continuing until her death. Amy was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New Jersey Society of CPAs, the Pennsylvania Institute of CPAs, the Pennsylvania Society of Tax and Accounting Professionals, and the National Conference of CPA Practitioners. Amy joined the American Association of University Women in 1985. She served as treasurer of the Makefield Area branch of AAUW for many years and received their Outstanding Woman award in 2011. Amy was a member of the American Contract Bridge League and became a life master in 2003. She played bridge enthusiastically until her final illness. She was an avid reader, especially of mysteries and humor books, and enjoyed music of all types. She was a great fan of British comedies on TV and Woody Allen movies. She enjoyed working on many types of puzzles, reading comic strips, and playing Trivial Pursuit. Amy is survived by her husband of 38 years, Daniel of Yardley; her sister, Martha Lowenstein Rennie; brother-in-law, Eric; their sons, Matthew and Aaron; granddaughter, Alexandra; her brother, James I. Lowenstein; sister-in-law, Hadassah; their sons, Ben and Luis; grandson, Tyler, and many dear cousins. Amy also leaves her beloved cat, Betsy. Amy will be remembered for her determination and straightforward, rational nature, exhibited as she courageously fought the devastating, painful cancer. She will be remembered by all for her humor, warmth, and kindness to others. In their wedding ceremony, Amy and Danny promised to "tolerate each other's foibles and call them cute."
