ALEXANDRA BLACKHURST  
Of Washington, DC, died on Thursday, October 5, 2017. She was 72.Born on September 12, 1945 in Glen Cove, NY, she was the daughter of the late Laurence Rhoderic Blackhurst, Jr. and Sarah Chiles Blackhurst Carter. Ms. Blackhurst graduated from The Gunston School, class of 1963 and attended University of Delaware. After 35 years she retired from The World Bank in Washington, D.C. as a bi-lingual assistant administrator. She volunteered both at the Smithsonian and the Ronald MacDonald House where she put her excellent baking skills to good purpose. She traveled all over the world, enjoyed doing needlepoint, reading, good political discussions and loved bats (Chioptera). She attended church at Old St. Paul's Kent, in Chestertown. She is survived by a sister, Lynn (Leonora) Blackhurst Wait of Chestertown, MD; a brother, Laurence R. "Larry" Blackhurst, III and his wife, Mary Butler Blackhurst of North River, NY; four nephews, John S. Wait, III, Webster S. Wait Laurence R. (Rod) Blackhurst, IV and wife, Rachel, and Wilson S. Blackhurst; and a niece, Kelly A. Blackhurst. A memorial graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Old St. Paul's Church Cemetery, 7579 Sandy Bottom Road, Chestertown, MD.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Humane Society of Kent County, P.O.
