Alice Marie 'Alre' Devers Balint Elegant, accomplished woman, dedicated teacher Alice Marie "Alre" Devers Balint passed away peacefully on Sept. 12, 2017, with her beloved husband, Matthew "Matt" J. Balint, at her side. Services and burial will be private. Arrangements are under the care of Dangler Funeral Home, Morris Plains, N.J. Born in Wilkes Barre, Pa., on March 23, 1930, to William and Alice Devers, she was the oldest of four children. As a young girl, her family relocated to Newark, N.J. After losing her father at an early age, Alice formed a close bond with her mother, sisters, and younger brother. Alice graduated from Barringer High School and completed her undergraduate degree in education, where she excelled. Alice proudly obtained her master's in library science from Rutgers University. A teacher for many years in the Newark Public School system, Alice was an admired and effective teacher at all levels of elementary education. She met Matt, her husband of 63 years, and they were married on Dec. 26, 1953. Matt and Alice lived for many years in Glen Ridge, N.J., Short Hills, N.J., and most recently, Roseland, N.J. Alice was an elegant, stylish, accomplished woman whose outer beauty was matched only by her inner beauty. She was devoted to her family and will remain forever with them. Alice was predeceased by her parents; sister-in-law, Audrey Galasso, and brother-in-law, Edward J. Fontaine. She is survived by her husband, Matt; her sisters, Mary Fontaine and Claire Petoletti (Angelo), and her brother, William Devers (Leslie). She is also survived by her nieces, Lynn Fontaine Newsome, Claire Gorman, Susan Petoletti, Nadine O'Donnell, Colleen Nowak, and nephew, Brian Petoletti, and all of their families.
