Adelbart Seymour BanksAugust 6 1931-August 26, 2017Adelbart (Bert) Seymour Banks died peacefully on August 26, 2017 surrounded by friends and his loving wife Dale Rabinov. Born August 6, 1931, he grew up in Sussex, New Jersey and at age 17, left home to join the Air Force and serve in the Korean War. While stationed at Travis Air Force Base in California, he met and married Bette Brennan and fathered three children--sons Delbart Banks and Donald Banks and daughter Rebecca Koramatsu.

After earning a Civil Engineering degree at San Diego State University, Bert moved the family to Hayward and worked at Lockheed as an Aerospace Engineer/Project Manager until his retirement. To spend more time with his children, he got involved in raising award winning pigeons and formed the Santa Clara Valley Pigeon Club, serving as its president for many years.

In 1970, Bert moved to San Francisco and earned a MS degree in Psychology from the C.I.I.S. He practiced counseling, dream work, art therapy and astrology, and was active in the Guild for Psychological Studies with his wife, Wendy Banks.

In 1978, Dale Rabinov entered his life and they married on New Year's Eve in 1980. Bert had a passion for showing others how to capture the beauty of the natural world and became a master photographer and gifted teacher, launching Macro Tours Photo Workshops. This lead to teaching workshops at Pt. Reyes, Canada College and other organizations, and guided trips to Canada, Alaska, New England, and throughout the Southwest. Bert later became a prolific watercolor painter and served on the Board of Directors for the Friends of the Sharon Arts Studio.

Even when facing his biggest challenges, Bert retained his intellectual curiosity and kindness. He was a seeker and lived a life with Spirit. He loved, respected and accepted people on their own terms, and was treasured by his family, friends, students and co-workers for his warmth and sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife Dale Rabinov, sons Delbart, Donald, daughter Rebecca, grandsons Troy, Shane and Abraham Banks, Alan and Quinn Korematsu, and great-granddaughters Vienna and Ava Banks. His family includes Maia Rabinov, Carl Pilcher, Ashe, Ari and Avery Lewin and Veronica Masterson.

A service and life celebration in his honor will be held Thursday, Sept 7th at 2 pm. at the SF Columbarium, One Loraine Court.

In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to Rocket Dog Rescue, the SF-Marin Food Bank or Wounded Warriors.
