Barbara was born February 5, 1931 to Reginald and Paula Butcher in Fort Worth, Texas. She was the oldest child and had a sister named Janis. The family moved to California in 1942, lived in San Francisco for a few years, and then purchased a home in San Anselmo. Barbara attended Tamalpais High School. Barbara was an avid hiker and bird watcher who frequented the trails in the Fairfax hills and the slopes of Mt. Tamalpais.

She started working with computers in the data processing department at Pacific Bell in San Francisco. Grant passed away in 1971, and six years later she married Wally Eastburn. She continued to work, supervising a team of programmers, until she retired from AT&T after 20 years and moved with her husband to Carmichael, CA. Wally passed away in 2010. Barbara continued to live in Carmichael until earlier this year. She was an avid gardener after retirement, and her favorite past-times were spending time with family and friends, and caring for her two cats, Chloe and Maggie.

Barbara is survived by her two children, Matt Thompson (Dorothy) and Karen (Thompson) Burow, and five grandchildren, Paul Burow, Ben Thompson, Dana Burow, Laura Thompson (Alperen Toksoz), and Carson Fogg.
