Alfred E. HawkesHAWKES, ALFRED E. Senior Master Sergeant USAF (Ret) died June 14, 2017. Mr. Hawkes was born in San Francisco, CA on October 19th, 1919 to Edward and Matilda Hawkes. He graduated from Balboa High School in 1937 and followed his father in employment with the San Francisco Muni. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Airforce in October 1941 and was stationed in the China-Burma-India Theater during WWII. He met his future wife on a San Francisco trolley car between enlistments. His service included two tours of duty with NATO forces in Italy. He retired from the Air Force in 1966 and assumed a position in Federal Civil Service through 1981. Beloved husband of Ljubica (Elouise) Ana Paskvan Hawkes, also of San Francisco, and father of Doris I. Hawkes, who predeceased him; his survivors include his son Howard A. Hawkes and wife, Lynn; grandsons Trevor and Daryl of Tehachapi and Riverside, CA, and Derek and Corey Quintanilla of San Antonio, TX; as well as his brother, Robert E. Hawkes of Pacifica, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial gathering and internment Aug. 21, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, CA.
