Albert M. Buchanan 'Big Al', 'Pop-Pop', formerly of Orange and West Orange Albert Mahlon Buchanan, 90, passed away peacefully at home in Barnegat, N.J., on Aug. 9, 2017, surrounded by his loved ones. Viewing will be held at the Barnegat Funeral Home, 841 W. Bay Ave., Barnegat, on Sunday, Aug. 13, from 2 to 6 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's R.C. Church, 747 W. Bay Ave., Barnegat, on Monday, Aug. 14, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Barnegat. For further information or to leave a remembrance please go to www.barnegatfh.com. Born in Orange, N.J. on July 16, 1927, Al recently celebrated his 90th birthday with the entire Buchanan Clan. He joined the United States Navy in 1945 and sailed to Shanghai, China, on the USS IBEX. An auto mechanic by trade, he worked at several dealerships, and owned and operated Joe & Al's Mobil Service in Orange. Al and Joan raised their family in West Orange for 30 years and retired to Barnegat 23 years ago. He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Joan; his children, William (Elizabeth), Linda Santucci (Vincent), Gary (Nancy), Timothy (Deborah), Robert (Scott), and John (Linda), nine grandkids and six great-grandchildren.
