Interment will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Satterlee tomb, joining her deceased husband, George, in the Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Alice Madge Butler was born on July 8, 1936, to parents, Madge Parker and Justus Clyde Butler, Sr. She was married to George R. Satterlee, the love of her life, in 1983 after a long courtship. She is predeceased by George, as well as her parents; sister, Clydine Butler Kuehn; and step-siblings, Justus Howard Butler, George Franklin Butler, Ruby Mae Butler Squire, and Edward Butler. Her brother, Justus Clyde "Herc" Butler, Jr. and his daughter, Shawna Butler Thomas survive her, as do nephews and niece, David, John, and Kathy, offspring of Clydine.
Graduating from Livingston High School in 1954, she then completed a business administration degree in three years at what is now Sam Houston University. She was employed by then Humble Oil & Refining Company in Tyler, Texas, before being transferred to Houston a few years later. She retired from what had become ExxonMobil at age 50 after 29 years of service.
Alice was a hospitable and loving friend to many and found humor in almost any situation. A fun person to be with, she had a remarkable ability to laugh at herself. Some of us took advantage of that and took delight in recalling to her of her slip-ups or her propensity for being tardy.
Returning to Houston in 2007, she soon began to encounter illness in forms that greatly diminished her ability to enjoy life to the fullest. Her cognition of people, events and facts remained high to the end, which came on July 26, 2017.
Remembrances of Alice can be sent to Clyde Butler, 10402 Mossycup, Livingston, Texas 77351 or to First Baptist Church, 106 Colt Road, Livingston, Texas 77351.
