Adelaide Disano

Faleceu

Adelaide Louise Di SanoDecember 3, 1922 - July 11, 2017Adelaide DiSano passed away last week after a long, wonderful life. "Addie" was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend and she will be dearly missed. Adelaide was born in Malden, MA, grew up in nearby Melrose and attended Boston University. After WWII she met her beloved Joseph DiSano and they married in 1947. They moved to California in 1948. While Joe attended Menlo JC and Stanford University, Adelaide worked at a local Palo Alto restaurant and they began raising their family. After Joe's graduation, they decided to open Kip's Restaurant near UC Berkeley. Kip's quickly became a success and Joe decided to change careers from petroleum engineering to the restaurant business. Kip's became a famous Cal destination and Addie was integral to its success as she worked in various capacities, from cook to bookkeeper. In 1962, they moved from Berkeley to Lafayette where they raised their three children, Linda, Lisa and Mike. Adelaide loved to entertain and her home was always the site of many lively dinners and parties. Addie enjoyed listening to music, from opera to Dean Martin, and she and Joe enjoyed dancing often. Some of her favorite memories were of family summer vacations at Lake Tahoe. Joe and Addie sold Kip's in 1980, moved to Walnut Creek and opened Village Pizza in Orinda, which also became a local favorite. Many former Cal students, now with families, had since moved to Orinda and knew Adelaide and Joe from their years at UC. Addie and Joe enjoyed traveling and were able to visit the birthplaces of their parents in Italy after they semi-retired.
Adelaide is survived by her devoted husband, Joe, loving children Linda Ehrich (Paul) of Moraga, Lisa Hennessy of Alamo, Mike DiSano (Noelle) of Chico, grand-children Jason Ehrich, Brian Ehrich, Alison Pariani (Steven), Zack Hennessy, Shannon Hennessy, Kelly Hennessy, Dante DiSano, Stefano DiSano, Paolo DiSano, Francesca DiSano, Adelaide DiSano, and great-grandchildren Marco Pariani, Elena Pariani and Siena Pariani.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Addie's life on July 29, 2017. Mass will be held at St. Isidore's Catholic Church in Danville at 10:30 am, followed by burial and reception at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance (CureFA.org) would be appreciated as this is an important philanthropy to Adelaide and her family.
