1927 - 2017 "A wonderful man"...generous, intelligent, warm, witty, interesting, creative, personable, thoughtful, wise, friendly, a counselor, a mediator, strong, empathizing... Everyone who learns of Allen's passing echos and contributes to this list of positive attributes of this memorable man. He was a supportive, sympathetic, loving, warm husband then father, grandfather and friend. First, though he was a beloved and loving son to Fannie and Harold Moss...and big brother to Sarene. Then Allen merged his life into the life and family of Tobey, with her mother, father and sisters, developing a wondrous broad family. Allen and Tobey met at Hyde Park High School in Chicago in 1943, after she transferred from 'the Branch' to the 'Main' campus. They were introduced at a Sigma Epsilon honor society meeting in 1943...and that proved to be a lasting arrangement. Allen joined the Navy in 1944, directed into the V-12 officer training division at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). He was discharged and graduated in 1948 and then married Tobey in 1949. They settled in Los Angeles, raised three sons while Allen - beginning as an engineer - segued into real estate, law school and then a successful career as an attorney, specializing in real estate and probate matters; Allen retired five years ago. The Plato Society, Brandeis Law, Movie and Study Groups continued to stimulate his interests in the wide, wide world. Pleasures included Allen's treks and camping in the Sierras with sons David, Kenneth and Howard, and togetherness with Tobey in the pleasures of travel, family events and gatherings, scrabble games, good restaurants, bridge partners, baseball, camping in Yosemite Valley. The travels were spread between car trips with Tobey and the boys in many parts of the United States and Canada and then simply as a couple throughout Europe, Israel, Scandinavia, Britain, Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Peru and Machu Picchu. The pleasures were exponentially enhanced by the introduction of three wonderful daughters-in-law: Jane with David, Patricia with Kenneth, Adrea with Howard and seven outstanding grandchildren: Anica, Melissa, Nathan(Sophia), Eliot, Daniel, Carina(Jason) and Connor - with their contribution of spouses also! Allen devoured mystery and spy books...and Pink's hot dogs and Gino Angelini's Osso Buco. Allen and Tobey were members of Temple Israel of Hollywood since the 1950s - and, over the last 25 years, relished a warm relationship with Rabbi John Rosove....one of the many friendships enjoyed over the 68 years of their marriage.
