Agnes Mary Blake Ryder Longtime Whippany resident Agnes B. Ryder, 89, of Whippany, N.J., passed away June 24, 2017 in Paramus, N.J. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at 11 a.m., with a gathering starting at 10 a.m., at the Bradley Braviak Funeral Home, 49 Whippany Rd., Whippany. Agnes was born Jan. 16, 1928, and was raised in North Arlington, N.J., living there until she married the late Leonard B. Ryder in 1950. She moved to Whippany in 1954 and lived there for 60 years. Agnes graduated from New York University with a bachelor's degree in business in 1949. She then joined the faculty of Morris Knolls Regional High School in Rockaway, N.J., where she taught business, typing, and computing. Agnes continued to apply her business skills after her retirement from Morris Knolls by managing two companies. The first was known as Ryder Associates, and was formed together with her husband, Leonard. It organized and managed the Bev-Pak International Ryder Conferences, which brought the best and brightest minds of the then nascent plastics bottling industry together to discuss the latest developments. The second, Mechanical Specialties Company (MSC), was a family business which she assumed control over when her father retired. MSC produced mechanical core chucks, which are an essential component for several manufacturing industries. Throughout her life, Agnes was devoted to her family. Together with her husband, she went above and beyond the call of duty as a daughter, sister, parent, and grandparent. She is survived by a large and thankful family including her daughter, Joan; her brother, Arthur; her four grandchildren, Jesse, Evan, Brian, and Shawn, and eight great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Those who wish to make a donation in honor of Agnes, may direct their gifts to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation located at www.jdrf.com.
