Adam Christopher de Lannoy Felt
1997 ~ 2017
Salt Lake City, UT-On Monday, June 26, 2017, our beloved son, Adam Christopher de Lannoy Felt, died at his home from the ravages of major depressive disorder and anxiety. He suffered valiantly from this physically transparent illness for nearly a decade, beginning when he was in the sixth grade. Adam was absolutely brilliant but was unable to feel and appreciate life's simple joys and happiness; and the love that his many family, friends, and co-workers tried to help him comprehend. He will always be remembered for his courage during despair and difficult times.
Adam was born on January 23, 1997, in Salt Lake City, Utah, with a full head of black hair, to Eric Clark Felt and Joyce Irene Elizabeth de Lannoy. He always had a twinkle in his eye, a million dollar smile, and a heart of gold. Adam was fiercely independent, a profoundly deep thinker, animated in his expressions, often quirky and goofy, and very competitive in video, card and board games. Adam never wanted sleep because he had too much to learn about the world and would delve into many different interests. He loved playing the piano and performing his own musical compositions, and recently took up the guitar.
One of the greatest triumphs in Adam's adult life was obtaining full-time employment at Instructure as a Systems Support Engineer, while simultaneously going to the University of Utah as a full-time college student. He studied computer science and biology. Other accomplishments included becoming an Eagle Scout and graduating with Honors from Hillcrest High School in 2015, earning an International Baccalaureate Diploma. He was a network administrator for Vonage, and proficient in Python, Bash, C++, HTML and ArchLinux.
Adam is survived by his parents, Eric and Joyce Felt; brothers and sister-in-law, Brian, Blake (Sharon), Clark, Joel, Spencer, David; three grandparents, Roger and Geraldine Felt, and Elizabeth de Lannoy; and many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Willem de Lannoy; and two uncles, Brian and David Felt. As in Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," Adam found his soul mate in Desi Giannopoulos. She gave him love, hope, laughter and joy.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017, at 10:00 am at the Mountain View Memorial Mortuary and Memorial Park, located at 3115 East Bengal Boulevard (7800 South), Cottonwood Heights, Utah 84121 - http://www.memorialutah.com. Please bring a card or letter of sweet memories you have of Adam. And be sure to hug those you care about a little tighter.
Adam desired to help all those around him and was a champion for the underdog. Instructure will be setting up a scholarship-memorial fund through a public fundraising campaign platform, so please search his name on the internet. Donations will benefit teenagers struggling with severe depression and suicidal thoughts.
