CALELLO Albert T. Jr. on May 24, 2017 of Dedham, Dover, Pocasset, and Walpole. Devoted husband of Mary (Cronin) Calello, and loving father of Catherine Staples and her husband James (Devon, PA), Ann Groccia and her husband Al (Wellesley, MA), the late Paul Calello and his wife Jane DeBevoise (Brooklyn, New York) and Kristan Bishop and her husband Rick (Durham, NH). Survived by his wife, three daughters, and twelve grandchildren: Claire Staples, Natalie Staples, Kevin Staples, Ling Groccia, Chan Groccia, Jin Calello, David Calello, James Calello, Peter Calello, Ryan Bishop, Matthew Bishop, and Jack Bishop. Al was born on March 16, 1930 in Dedham, Massachusetts, the son of Albert Calello and Angelina Scafati. He attended Cushing Academy and Rutgers University where he was an All-American lacrosse player. Al served in Austria during the Korean War. He and his wife, Mary, graduated from Boston College School of Social Work and were married on June 16, 1956. Al devoted his life to a career in social work serving in a number of positions, among them directing the Cambridge Child and Family Care Service agency and working for Family Counseling Guidance Center and The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. Throughout his life Al loved to sing and perform. He sang in musicals and reviews at the Dover Foundation and Open Fields, raising money for college scholarships. His beautiful tenor voice drew people to the Sunday masses at St. Mary's in Dedham and The Most Precious Blood in Dover. Visiting hours at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St. (Rt 16) WELLESLEY, Tuesday, May 30, 2017 from 4-8pm. A Funeral Mass for Al will be held in Most Precious Blood Church, Dover Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in Highland Cemetery, Dover.
