Mathie, Betty Jean Age 85. The daughter of Vance and Florence Wright, Betty was born in Detroit on May 31, 1931, and passed away peacefully on Thursday May 18, 2017 surrounded by family Betty was a resident of Royal Oak for over 60 years, she was retired from the Detroit Public Schools after over 30 years of teaching. In retirement, Betty was an active volunteer for Beaumont Health System and The Royal Oak Public Library. She was also very involved in her neighborhood crime prevention. Betty loved her family and was happiest when they were with her. She is survived by her children Michael (Melissa) of Au Gres, Susan (John) of Canton, Karen of Maumee, Ohio, and David (Heather) of Traverse City; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Margaret. Cremation has taken place, at her request, services will be private. The family has requested that any donations be made to the Michigan Humane Society.
