Adelaide (Addie) A. Brooks, (nee Murphy) age 92, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2017 in Evanston, IL. Formerly a resident of Wheaton & Wayne, IL, Addie was born in Rockville Centre, NY. Raised in Rochester, NY, Addie served in the Navy during WWII working in Wash DC. Addie was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, R.W. (Bill) Brooks. Addie is survived by her three children: R. William Brooks (Bobbie), Timothy Brooks (Jan) and Jennifer Linzer (Dan). She was the proud grandmother of Elisabeth Hawksbee (Duncan), Melanie Brooks, Nathan Brooks (Stacy), Melissa Strong (Geoffrey), Chris Brooks (Maggie), and Nora Linzer; great-grandmother to Adelaide Brooks, Collin Brooks, Grace Brooks and Aryana Strong & an aunt to many. She also leaves behind her loving brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Thomas Brooks, Brenda Cude, Gladys Brooks and Marshall and Susan Brooks. Addie lived a full and active life with many friends and interests. She cared deeply about animals - especially, dogs, horses and birds. She was a P.E.O. for more than 60 years, an adventurous world traveler with her husband Bill, an avid gardener, a loyal Chicago Cubs fan who also loved playing golf with family and friends. The Brooks family is extremely grateful to Addie's devoted caregiver, Ania Romanik who provided loving and unwavering care for many years. A family celebration of Addie's life will be held in the fall. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Guide Dogs for the Blind or the ASPCA.
