Carmen 'Butch' DeVone Newark's chief water inspector, adored his grandsons Carmen "Butch" DeVone, 75, of Hunterdon County, N.J., passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on May 12, 2017. Butch was the chief water inspector in Newark, N.J., retiring in 2004. He was at the forefront at much of Newark's renaissance and new development over the years. Butch loved to hunt and fish but, more importantly, he loved spending time with his grandchildren, who were the source of his happiness and the light of his life. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Butch was the beloved husband of 53 years to Genevieve (DelSordi); devoted father of Nicholas, John, Carmen and his wife, Amy; and cherished grandfather of Michael and Peter. He was the dear brother of Angela Flanagan, Arlene Moretti, Cookie Smith, and the late Millie Pinto; loving brother-in-law of Mary Ann Gammero; uncle of John Gammero, James Gammero, Jeanine Gammero, and many other nieces and nephews. Visitation is at the Leonardis Memorial Home, 210 Ridgedale Ave., Florham Park, N.J., on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral is Tuesday, assembling at 10 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. Mass at St. Rose of Lima Church, East Hanover, N.J.
