Albert Silvio Garlatti Lifelong Highland Park resident, construction company owner, devoted parishioner Albert Silvio Garlatti, 83, a lifelong resident of Highland Park, N.J., died on May 9 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease and cancer. Viewing hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2017, at the Jaqui-Kuhn Funeral Home, 17 South Adelaide Ave., Highland Park. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at the Transfiguration of the Lord Parish, St. Paul the Apostle Church in Highland Park, followed by interment at St. Peter's Cemetery, New Brunswick, N.J. (Visit www.jkfuneralhome.com). Born on April 8, 1934, Albert was the son of the late Albert and the late Emilia (Molinaro) Garlatti, and brother to the late Lea Botteon and the late Louis A. Garlatti Sr. A builder who constructed residential, commercial, educational, and office properties in several New Jersey counties, Mr. Garlatti co-owned the Highland Park based Albert Garlatti Construction Co. with his brother for more than 50 years. He served in the Army from 1957 to 1959 and married Angelica Giorgianni on Oct. 3, 1959. Mr. Garlatti served his God as well as his country. A lifelong parishioner of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Highland Park, he sat on the parish Finance Committee and chaired the first Bishop's Annual Appeal. He also served as an usher, chaired the church's In Service to the Kingdom and Forward in Faith groups and was a member of the Serra Club and Knights of Columbus Council No. 6306. The church honored him with the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher award in 1995 and the Regina Nostra Medal in 1996. Mr. Garlatti was committed to his community as well as his church. Most notably, he was chairman of the Highland Park Housing Authority, where he served for 40 years. Mr. Garlatti will be remembered for his generosity of heart and strength of character, had a tremendous love of family. He was perhaps most happy when with his loved ones on holidays and at the family shore house in Point Pleasant Beach. The builder who constructed the Highland Park house that he shared with his wife and children was known for the massive Christmas trees that adorned the home's family room. Family and friends were welcomed every year to see the trees that soared as high as 16 feet. In addition to his devoted wife of 57 years, Mr. Garlatti is survived by his loving children, Maria (Robert) Harrison, Albert S. Jr., Joseph, and Michael (Trisha); and his dear grandchildren, Albert, Steven, Michael and Thomas Garlatti and Lea and Robert Harrison.
