Al Attermann WWII Purple Heart recipient and businessman, formerly of Hillside, 92 Al Attermann, 92, of Livingston, N.J., formerly of Hillside, N.J. and Millburn, N.J., passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017. A funeral service will be held 11:45 a.m. Friday at the Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Rd., Livingston. Interment will be in Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin, N.J. Born in Colon, Germany, Al came to the United States in 1938. He graduated from West Side High School and Newark College of Engineering (now NJIT) in 1950. Mr. Attermann was an Army veteran of World War II. He was wounded in the Philippines and received the Purple Heart. Al was the proprietor of A & S Attermann Inc. in Newark, N.J. Mr. Attermann was the past president of Sinai Congregation in Hillside and was a member of Temple Beth Shalom in Livingston. He was also the past president of the Hillside Board of Education. He was predeceased by his brother, Simon Attermann. Surviving are his wife, Lorraine Attermann; his children, Howard Attermann and his wife, Donna; Bruce Attermann and his wife, Elise; Jill Montag and her husband, Stephen, and Robert Attermann and his wife, Jill; his nine grandchildren, Aaron Attermann, Lauren Attermann, Erik Attermann, Eli Montag, Brian Attermann, Jenna Graub, Jake Attermann, Janie Attermann and Sami Attermann; his four great- grandchildren, Brian Jr., Caleb, Dara, and Jack, and his sister, Ruth Septee.
