AGNES TERESA LAYDEN DAVIS  (Age 84)  
Of Arlington, Virginia, passed away peacefully Monday, May 1, 2017 at her daughter's home, where family and friends gathered and celebrated her long and joyful life. Agnes was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and beloved husband of 61 years, David O. Davis, M.D. She is survived by her five daughters, Karen (Tom) Field, of Arlington, VA, Kathy (Rick) Lash of Arlington, VA, Diane (Tom) Fletcher, of Washington, DC, Janet (Tom) Russell of Arlington, VA, and Nancy (Mike) Corrao, of Fanwood, NJ. Also surviving are her 19 grandchildren, Shannon Field, Kelly (Matt) Field Kreutzer, Caroline (Thomas) Lash Hill, Margaret, Robert, Stephanie and Virginia Lash, Kate, Maggie, Bridget and Colleen Fletcher, Timothy, Daniel, Edward and Charles Russell, Matthew, David, John and Patrick Corrao, as well as a new great-grandson, Hugh Hill. She was born on June 17, 1932, the seventh of eight children of Edward and Cornelia (Fitzgerald) Layden of Hoopeston, Illinois. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Carter, and her brother, Dick Layden. Agnes graduated from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in Terre Haute, Indiana, excelling in math and physics. She began her career as an aeronautical engineer for McDonnell Aircraft, which included involvement in the NASA Mercury program. She raised five daughters and then established and ran two successful real estate companies, one in Arlington and another in Captiva, Florida. Agnes will be lovingly remembered for her laughter, generosity, optimism and for turning her entrepreneurial ideas into action. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 5, 2017 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 36th Street between N. and O. Streets, NW Washington DC, followed by burial at Columbia Garden Cemetery, 3411 Arlington Blvd., Arlington, VA 22201 with reception to follow.
