ALICE LOUISE DAVISON (Age 76)  
March 3, 2017, of Iowa City, IA, a native of Washington, DC. Beloved daughter of the late Alice Tweedy Davison and James Forrester Davison. Alice Louise attended The Potomac School, The Madeira School, and Bryn Mawr College Class of 1962 with her Junior Year Abroad at the Sorbonne in Paris, France. In 1973 she earned her PhD in Linguistics from the University of Chicago. Alice taught at Stony Brook, State University of New York; Cornell University; University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign; and the University of Wisconsin, Madison, before achieving tenure at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. She travelled to many countries and stayed in India for months running a graduate language school and many other trips to conferences. Hindi-Urdu was her specialty. She recently retired from the University of Iowa. She is survived by a younger brother, James Laurance Davison and his wife Clare of Annapolis, MD; a younger sister Elizabeth Bradford Davison of Washington, DC; and two nieces, Laura Davison Joyce of King Ferry, NY, and Elizabeth Davison Higdon of Edgewater, MD; and seven grandnieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Thursday April 27 at 2 p.m. at St. Albans Episcopal Church, 3001 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20016. She will be interred at Wooster Cemetery in Danbury, Connecticut with her parents and members of her mother's family.
