Alicia L. Casanova

Faleceu

Alicia Casanova, beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home on March 18, 2017. She was born on March 2,1937 in Havana, Cuba; she immigrated to the United States with her husband, Jose Manuel Casanova, in 1960. They were together until his passing on March 16, 2010. As a Cuban exile, she was a staunch advocate of human rights and Hispanic affairs. These ideals drove her to become a tireless and passionate public servant with many accomplishments. She made her voice heard through the community reporting on WQBA and Channel 23; fundraising for both charitable and political causes and playing a key role in the Republican Party. She used her passion and influence in defense of Cuban refugees, minority women and the disadvantaged. She played a leadership role in Washington D.C. as a Hispanic woman and was always an advocate for a free Cuba and the Hispanic community. After serving on the Miami-Dade County Republican Committee and as National Chairman of the RNHA, she was honored to be appointed on the Presidential Advisory Council of the Peace Corps by President Ronald Reagan and later by President George H. W. Bush to the Department of Transportation's Director of the Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business and Utilization. She was very proud to have known and supported President Ronald Reagan, President George H. W. Bush, President George W. Bush and Governor Jeb Bush and valued their character as well as their politics. She received a great many honors and keys to many cities; but none was more cherished to her than that of being a wife, mother and grandmother. Despite all her works and accomplishments, she was unfailing in her care, her seemingly endless love of her family and she served as an example of a true matriarch. She is survived by her son Alejandro and her daughters Alicia, Barbara and Mercy and her four grandchildren Georgina, Gabriella, Alexander and Julian as well as her sister Rosa. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 11691 NW 25th Street, Doral FL 33172 on April 10th at 11 AM. Messages of condolence can be sent to the family via email at casanovalabrit@gmail.com
