Ann Hodgson ClarkeOctober 22, 1928 - March 8, 2017Ann Hodgson Clarke, 88, passed away in Carmel Valley, CA., on March 8, 2017.
Ann was born on October 22, 1928, in Santa Barbara, CA. Her family moved a few years after her birth to the Monterey Peninsula. She grew up in Carmel, Carmel Valley and Monterey. She graduated from Carmel High, she attended Russell Sage College in New York and graduated from San Jose State University with a teaching credential in Physical Education. Upon graduating, she taught at Monterey High School, and Portola High School, in Portola, CA. She also taught in Linz, Austria for the United States Army. She eventually made her way to San Francisco, CA., where she worked in the Insurance Industry and met her future husband, Captain Alan H. Clarke. Ann raised her family in Mill Valley, CA. and lived there for 51 years.
Her love for physical education allowed her to do many things. She was a competitive tennis player, was part of the Track and Field coaching staff at Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley, CA., and a season ticket holder with the San Francisco Ballet. Her love of dance was fostered while she studied at the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance in New York; the experience was one of her fondest memories.
She was active in her local communities. Particularly in Mill Valley, where she served on the boards of the Scott Valley Swim and Tennis Club (Charter Member), the Mill Valley Outdoor Art Club and Marin Designer Showcase. Her joy of reading lead to a lifetime surrounded by books, both working in various bookstores and with the Friends of the Mill Valley Library.

Ann was predeceased by her husband Alan H. Clarke. She is survived by her sons, Bill (Sue), Bob (Terri), Chris (Sallyann) and her daughter Susie. Ann had 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

The family wishes to thank the staff at The Carmel Valley Manor for their great care and support.
