Barbara Pinger DoyleOctober 8, 1924 - March 12, 2017Barbara Doyle, 92, died March 12, 2017 at her home in Oakland, attended by her three children Jane O'Riordan, Bruce Riordan and David Riordan. Barbara was born on October 8, 1924 in Berkeley, the daughter of Miriam Blacker Pinger and Col. Roland Pinger.

She was preceded in death by husband Patrick W. Doyle, former husband Bernard N. Riordan Jr., brothers Roland W. Pinger and Edward B. Pinger and companion Donald Welcome.

Barbara graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California, Berkeley in 1945 and was a featured speaker at her graduation ceremony. She was an active member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority where she formed lifelong friendships.

Barbara taught U.S. history at the San Lorenzo Adult School and was a long-time worker in the Oakland Museum's White Elephant sale and at Oakland Potluck, the food runner service.

She loved hiking in nature. She always said she got the feeling that she was being led someplace special. She was an avid reader and belonged to the same book club for 60 years.

Barbara was devoted to family her entire life and was honored in her later years to be the matriarch and family historian for a large extended group of Riordans, Pingers, and Doyles.

She is survived by her children, David Riordan, Bruce Riordan and Jane O'Riordan, stepdaughter Pamela Doyle Mitchell and stepson Kevin Doyle, and grandchildren, Neal Riordan, Louis Riordan, Ridge Easton, Melissa Mitchell, Tiffany Salvetti, Matthew Moffett, Sevrin Anne Mason, and Claytie Christine Mason.

The family would like to thank all of her many friends and the staff at St. Paul's Tower's for their support during these last weeks and days.
