May 10, 1928 - February 24, 2017 Al Spivak, a Brooklyn native and longtime Beverly Hills resident, passed away on Friday, February 24 at the age of 88. Born in 1928 as the oldest child of Eastern European immigrants, he attended Yeshiva of Flatbush, Midwood High, and his beloved Ohio State before moving with his family to L.A. in the late 1940s. He later earned an MBA at UCLA. The intensity of his passion for Buckeye sports and the San Francisco Giants was unmatched. A mortgage banker and bank director, he had an eclectic side business as a small Sonoma Valley winemaker. His sharp business acumen was evident to the end. He loved books and always had one nearby - and when he couldn't see the fine print in his home library, he turned to the audio books at the Beverly Hills Public Library. Al will be best remembered for exemplifying the values of humility, charity, and gratitude, so rare in today's world. He leaves a legacy of helping so many others while never wanting the spotlight. His memory is cherished by his beloved wife of 58 years, Betty (née Levin), brother Herb, daughter Sharon, son Michael (Gaby), treasured grandchildren Max Spivak and Madeline Ottilie, and many nieces, nephews, lifelong friends and others who adored him.
