Alfonso M. Di Benedetto, 90, of Northbrook, IL passed away peacefully surrounded by family. He was the beloved husband for 67 years of Rose, dear son of the late Vincenzo and Flaminia, dear brother of the late Armand. Loving father of Linda (Patrick) Bradley, Vince (Diane) Di Benedetto, Rosanne (Walt) Corigliano, grandfather of Patrick (Emily), Matthew (Amy), James (Kayla) Bradley, Vincent (Katie) Di Benedetto, Danielle (Leo) Kelly, Michael Di Benedetto, Marc and Katherine Corigliano. Great-grandfather of Aiden, Nora, Maeve, Ryan, Matthew, Mary Kate, Danny, Jack and Lena Bradley. Born in Pizzone, Italy, Alfonso immigrated to the U.S in 1951. He is the former Executive Vice President of Banco diRoma (Chicago) & CEO of Mississippi River Grain Elevator. Mr. Di Benedetto attended the University of Naples-Rome, Northwestern University and the Graduate School of the University of Wisconsin. He holds degrees in accounting, economics, commerce and banking. He was active in numerous civic, business and charitable associations, including the Economic Club of Chicago, the Italian American National Union, the Order of the Sons of Italy, Chicago Council on American Italian Relations and many others. He was also a member of the Board of Governors of Illinois Bankers Association and a past-president of the Italo American Chamber of Commerce, served as Vice Chairman of the Villa Scalabrini Home for the Aged. In 1969 Mr. Di Benedetto was knighted by the President of Italy as "Cavaliere" of the Order of the Italian Republic. In 1975 he was honored as "Man of the Year" by Lewis University, College of Law and in 1979 he was "Man of the Year" for the Italian Chamber of Commerce. He was a proud founder of the Molisani nel Mondo Club and an active member of the Santa Liberata Club, St. Stephen and St. Vincent Societies. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Carmelite Monastery or Comboni Missionaries. Visitation Sunday 2 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Belmont Funeral Home, 7120 W. Belmont Ave. Friends are asked to meet Monday at St. Norbert Parish, 1809 Walters Ave. Northbrook, for a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment All Saints Mausoleum.
