Amel Bontempo Loving husband and father, retired postmaster Amel M. Bontempo, 65, of Summit, N.J., passed away peacefully on Feb. 17, 2017. He was surrounded by family and friends. The Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 10:45 a.m., at St. Teresa of Avila Church, Summit. The interment will follow in St. Teresa's Cemetery, Summit. Visitation will be held at Paul Ippolito Summit Memorial, 7 Summit Ave., Summit, on Wednesday, Feb. 22, from 4 to 8 p.m. To send condolences, or for information, visit ippolitofuneralhomes.com. Mr. Bontempo was born and raised in Summit. He was a graduate of Summit High School and Rutgers University-Newark College of Arts and Sciences, where he received a degree in chemistry. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service, and in 1985 became postmaster of Brookside, N.J., and later Green Village, N.J. After retiring from the postal service in 2007, he was employed by Maersk, Inc., as a mail supervisor. A science fiction enthusiast, Mr. Bontempo also loved the Giants, the Mets, and spending time with family and friends. He was the life of the party and loved making people laugh. Amel was predeceased by his father, Amel L. Bontempo. He is survived by his wife, Madeline (nee Nitti); sons, Christopher and Thomas Bontempo; mother, Yolanda Bontempo (nee Pannullo), and sister, Donna Bontempo. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations in Amel's memory may be made to the , P.O.
